Very Small Quantity Generator Program (VSQG)
The IWMA has programs to help businesses manage their hazardous, universal and electronic waste. State and Federal laws govern these programs and restrictions apply. Businesses that qualify as Very Small Quantity Generators (VSQGs) — generating less than or equal to 27 gallons or 220 pounds of hazardous waste per month — must schedule an appointment to dispose of their hazardous waste at one of the six Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) facilities located throughout the County.
To safely dispose of burnt lithium ion batteries, soak them in a brine solution for 48 hours prior to transporting for disposal.
Baking Soda Brine Solution:
Combine 1 and 1/8 cups of baking soda with one gallon of water.
Soak for a full 48 hours to ensure they are completely discharged in a well ventilated area.
After 48 hours, transport your DDR batteries to one of our Household Hazardous Waste Facilities.
