Residential Hazardous Waste Disposal

Residents of San Luis Obispo County may drop off up to 15 gallons or 125 pounds of hazardous waste per visit at no cost. Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) and E-Waste are accepted at the following facilities for residential drop-off.  Residents with hazardous waste over 15 gallons or 125 pounds may request Large Quantity Disposal here.

Burnt Lithium Ion Batteries 

To SAFELY dispose of burnt lithium-ion batteries,  properly store the battery in a fireproof container, cover with sand or kitty litter, and store it in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from combustibles. Transport your burnt battery to one of our Household Hazardous Waste Facilities.

Cold Canyon Landfill Hazardous Waste Facility will be closed January 1, May 25, July 4, September 7, November 26, December 25 for the holidays. All other San Luis Obispo County Hazardous Waste Facilities will be closed Janaury 1 - 3, May 22 + 23, July 3 + 4, September 4 + 5, November 26 - 28, and December 24 - 26.
